Introducing the Sprint run version of the popular Stretch C90 knife, now equipped with Aogami Super Blue steel for an incredibly sharp and long-lasting cutting edge. The blade features a core of Super Blue steel sandwiched between layers of 420J1 stainless steel laminate. You'll notice a distinct line along the grind where the two steels meet. One of the notable advantages of using a stainless steel laminate is its resistance to oxidation and stains, unlike high carbon steels such as Aogami Super Blue which require proper maintenance to prevent corrosion and pitting.
Aogami Super Blue steel is exclusively produced by Hitachi Metals in Japan, using high-quality iron-sand found only in that region. Hitachi creates different grades of white and blue steels, with the color designation referring to the wrapping paper used to deliver the raw steel to their facility.
The Spyderco C90 Stretch originally began as a personal project for Spyderco's owner and chief designer. He wanted a lockback knife that would excel in outdoor cutting tasks such as wood and rope, while also performing well indoors on materials like cardboard, mail, and even fingernails. The knife was designed to be non-intimidating in size and to have a sleek appearance that could be suitable for formal occasions. The C90 embodies all the qualities that define Spyderco: functionality, high performance, advanced materials, and exceptional craftsmanship, all packaged in a unique and extraordinary design.
