Spyderco Salt I Black FRN H1 Steel Folding Knife C88SBK

Spyderco
In the world of knives, there has been a myth that there exists a type of steel that can provide exceptional cutting performance without rusting. However, a Japanese steel foundry has recently made this myth a reality with their innovative steel called H1. H1 is a special type of steel known as PH steel, which is a precipitation-processed alloy. It is rolled hard without heat-treating and contains 0.1% nitrogen, which acts similarly to carbon in the steel but does not react to chlorine, preventing rust. Surprisingly, H1 maintains a sharp cutting edge comparable to the premium knife steels used by most manufacturers in the industry. One of the popular knife models from Spyderco is the Delica Model, which attracts users due to its practical size, versatile shape, and proven durability. It only makes sense to incorporate H1 steel into this model, so Spyderco did just that with a few modifications. The Salt I version of the Delica Model features a more rounded tip that is slightly thicker at the point. This design change better suits the cutting tasks associated with boating and fishing, as H1 steel was specifically developed for use in and around water. To enhance usability, the diameter of the Spyderco Round Hole, used for easy one-handed opening, has been increased to 14mm. This allows for easier access even with gloved or wet hands. Additionally, all the steel components of the knife, both inside and outside, such as the lock bar, pins, and clip, have been treated to make them resistant to rust and pitting. The handle of the Salt I model features Volcano Grip texturing on both sides of the FRN handle, providing excellent friction-resistance to prevent slipping. Another notable feature is the locking lever dent designed by David Boye, which prevents accidental release of the lock when the handle is gripped firmly. For convenient portability, the knife includes a black titanium pocket clip that can be positioned for left or right-handed users, with the option for tip-up carry. Additionally, a hole running through the hollow clip screw serves as a lanyard pipe, allowing for the attachment of a thong or cord when using the knife around water. Please note that the Spyderco Salt model is currently transitioning from H1 steel to H2 steel.
