For the Dodo, Spyderco developed a unique locking mechanism called the Ball Bearing Lock. This mechanism involves a small steel ball that is dropped into a recess on the blade's tang, effectively locking the blade in the open position. The ball is compressed by the open blade, ensuring a secure and sturdy lock. To unlock the blade, simply pull back on the ball, which can be accessed from both sides of the knife for both left and right-handed users.
