During the 1990s, Spyderco was approached by a specific branch of U.S. law enforcement. These undercover agents needed a knife that they could carry discreetly, as they often couldn't have a firearm with them. While they didn't have formal self-defense training, they wanted a blade that could be used as a last resort for protection or escape in life-threatening situations. This led to the creation of the Civilian model.
The Civilian features a unique patented reverse "S" blade, designed to function like an oversized claw. The tip is incredibly thin, allowing for precise cutting. The deeply curved and full belly of the VG-10 hollow-ground blade excels in slicing tasks and can be purchased with a fully SpyderEdged edge. It's important to note that this knife is not intended for general everyday use due to its specialized features.
The handle of the Civilian is ergonomically designed, with curves in all the right places for a comfortable grip and easy retention of the knife. It is made of black G-10 material. The knife is mounted for tip-down carry and comes with a custom curved black clip, allowing it to be discreetly and securely carried in a pocket.
The Civilian is one of the most specialized CLIPITS in the Spyderco line-up and is only available in limited quantities.
