About the Brand:
The Higonokami pocketknife is a traditional Japanese knife known for its simplicity and durability. Unlike knives with complex locking mechanisms, the Higonokami relies on the user's firm grip on the extended spine to keep the blade fixed in place.
The history of the Higonokami dates back to the late 19th century when it gained popularity in Kumamoto Prefecture, which was known as "Higonokui" at the time. Originally used for various household and outdoor tasks, it also became an essential tool for Japanese students to sharpen their pencils before pencil sharpeners became widely available.
The maker of the Higonokami, Nagaokoma Seisakusho, was established in 1894 during the 27th year of the Meiji era. With a history spanning over a century, they are the sole trademark owner of the "Higonokami" name to this day.
