1095 is perfect for a survival knife because it can get super sharp, it’s extremely tough, and it’s easy to sharpen in the field. Most people go for the esee 4 or 5 because they are a more manageable size which allows more control in cuts. I like the 6 because the extra length makes it better at chopping and batonning. Maybe pair this knife with the Izula. 

The Esee 6 plain blade is a masterpiece of American made 1095 carbon steel. The knife absolutely lives up to the hype and is worth every penny of its cost. I&#039;ve put some custom G10 scales and my wife made me a scout carry leather sheath for Christmas.  My daughter and I are walking the JMT next year and the esee 6 with be a vital part. 

I collect all kinds of knives, including several from ESEE.  If I were to be marooned on a desert island and could have only one tool to keep me alive, it would be my ESEE 6.  It can build shelters, defend me from predators, be the business end of a spear, prep food, and split firewood, without being too heavy to schlep around all day.
