The Spyderco MeerKat is a folding knife that was previously made and discontinued, but now it's making a comeback as a limited edition Sprint Run for 2012. What sets this knife apart is its secret locking mechanism called the Phantom Lock. This locking system is hidden inside the handle and can be unlocked or closed by sliding the handle scales in opposite directions while placing your thumb on one side and fingers on the other. Although you can't see it, this lock provides a safe and secure way to lock and unlock the blade.
The handle of the MeerKat is made of Burgundy FRN (fiberglass reinforced nylon) and has an angular shape with divots on both sides for improved grip and ergonomic comfort. The blade is made of flat-ground VG-10 steel and has a modified drop-point shape, measuring just under two inches with a spine cusp. To make it convenient for everyday carry, the knife features an ambidextrous deep pocket-wire clip that allows it to be carried tip-down in a pocket.
The MeerKat is a small knife that can be carried almost anywhere and serves as a great everyday carry piece or even a money clip. Once you've experienced its compact size, impressive cutting ability, and unique locking system, you'll want to share it with your friends.
