Introducing Heritage Knives' rendition of the renowned post WW2 British Gurkha Issue "Mark 5" (MK 5) Kukri. This Kukri draws inspiration from the ones used by the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly during the Malayan Emergency, Borneo Confrontation, and Hong Kong border duties.
Crafted with utmost precision, this hand-forged full tang Kukri boasts a blade measuring just under 11 inches, made from high-quality AISI 5160 steel. The blade is oil quenched and heat treated to meet the highest standards. Designed with versatility in mind, it features a tapered shape suitable for various outdoor tasks, with a hardness rating of 58 HRC. The sharp tip allows for precise stabbing, while the Kukri's weight of approximately 550g leverages its natural balance, ensuring both martial flexibility and speed.
The rosewood handle is ergonomically adapted for enhanced comfort and stability, featuring a more pronounced curve compared to our other Kukris. It comes complete with a traditional military scabbard, covered in black leather over wood.
The MK 5 Gurkha BSI Kukri is a versatile tool suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities. It is worth noting that during the Borneo Confrontation, the last Gurkha VC was earned with a MK 5 Kukri, and numerous gallantry awards were won in both WW2 and WW1 with a Kukri in hand. These Kukris were designed long before their commercialization, with a strong emphasis on functionality and their historical use as weapons and tools. It is our belief that Kukris are primarily intended for practical use.
