Gerber Pledge Liner Lock Knife Blue GFN (3.7&quot; Bead Blast)

After reading a couple reviews complaining of how difficult it is to open this knife, I thought I would add my two cents. This knife is very easy to open. It just is. You might want more expensive blade steel or for it to have been manufactured anywhere but China, but the knife itself is very well designed, in my opinion. For me, this knife serves as a work knife and as a good slicer. 

Bought on sale in December.  Razor sharp out of the box.   Easier to deploy than thumb stud style as it has a larger 3/8 inch thumb flange.  I would prefer a deeper carry clip but I cannot remove a star as I knew this when I bought it.  Like blade size and shape.   Great bargain 

In picture, this seems like a really nice knife. Especially for the price. It has a great overall look and the design in the handle is very appealing, which Gerber does a good job as always. But handling it, opening it, and trying to use it, it just isn’t ergonomic. The knife feels backwards. It is very hard to open. The thumb stud is poorly designed due to the lack of grip when trying to deploy. When you do deploy it, the detent with combination of the shape of the blade makes it easy to cut yourself if not careful. It just feels like someone designed this knife completely on a computer without actually testing it. I want to like it because it’s a very appealing looking knife, but it’s not going to find its way into my edc rotation anytime soon. 

Somehow from design to execution a failure was created. Decent in appearance butt lacking in function. The Pledge is nearly impossible to deploy. Not by thumb stud and not by any means one handed what so ever. This makes it&#039;s practicality nil. I am there proud owner of a couple dozen Gerbers at least but someone slipped during conception of this tragedy. I feel as if it was never field tested at all. I oiled the Pivot, even tried to loosen it to no avail. The angle, position and ergonomics of the handle to thumb stud make an awkward situation right of the rip. Then the poor excuses for Pivot washers or lack of bearings have the contraption binded making even an attempt to break the initial stay a losing battle. Come on Gerber the competition is watching!
