I bought this knife for its looks, but it turned out to be a solid little folder.  I suppose I shouldn&#039;t be surprised, because &quot;solid little folder&quot; could be the tag line of Civivi&#039;s flagship Elementum model, but I&#039;ve found that I actually like the Imperium even better than the Elementum.  It has a longer blade, better blade steel--Nitro-V is one of the best steels for the relatively low price on the market today--and the Imperium&#039;s handle is more comfortable than the Elementum&#039;s. Besides looking amazing, the Imperium handle is long enough to get a solid grip on but contured and slender so that it rides easily in the pocket.  If I have any complaints about the design, it&#039;s that the gold shred carbon fiber handle is so lightweight compared to the blade that the knife&#039;s point of balance i farther forward than I prefer.  But the big choil in the blade mostly offsets the slight imbalance, and the forward weight and thin blade make it excellent for detailed work, which this knife was designed for.  It was most definitely not designed for hard use, but that should be apparent just by looking at it; this is the kind of knife you can use to cut your steak in a fancy restaurant without scaring anyone.  Another impressive design at a very impressive price from Civivi, and I&#039;m sorry to see it is being discontinued.

The scales look a little plasticy. Disassembling and giving them a light sand blasting ( took about 10 minutes ) gives them a pro matte finish that looks really good. I&#039;ve used quite a few expensive steels in my knives and I use them a lot. The Nitro-V steel is a revelation for me, exceeds them all, including M390, ZDP-189. It sharpens well. Holds an edge much longer than my others. My blade is at 61 HRC. I don&#039;t know if this is the average or not. I sharpen on the KME sharpener at 17 degrees.( Have to remove the thumb stud for that angle ) I hope this steel hangs around as it&#039;s so good and not priced up there. Going to get another Imperium before they&#039;re sold out. Can&#039;t beat $55

This knife has a great look and performs well. Super sharp out of the box, blade was centered, action is nice and snappy. No spring assist, but the detent is just right so it launches open without much fuss. The shredded carbon scales are really neat. It&#039;s hard to see in the photo but the gold and carbon shreds are sealed under a clear resin, so the grip is kind of plasticky, there&#039;s no exposed carbon or G10 or anything. Kind of a small shadow-box style of appearance with those shreds under the clear resin/plastic, etc. It&#039;s still grippy, but probably not as much with wet hands, etc, there&#039;s no texture. BUT it&#039;s stunning, slices nicely, flips open snappily, happy with the buy.

This is an update after two months of ownership. I do love the knife, but I have come to realize the blade I got was warped. After spending about an hour trying to center my blade, I took a good long look and realized the blade was warped to the left. I do not want to send it back as it&#039;s already been used as an everyday carry for a full month and I find it gives it personality, making it truly one of one (I hope). I bought this for 3 reasons. It comes with a Nitro-V blade steel which I&#039;ve been wanting to get my hands on for a while. It has my two favorite colors, black and gold. And third, I wanted to swap the blade with a Damascus blade to make it a show knife and it looks beautiful. I&#039;m very sad it&#039;s been discontinued.
